BREAST CANCER TOUCHES ALL OF US

Breast cancer touches all of us at some point in our lives, whether directly through our own battles, or indirectly as we walk alongside close friends and family members struggling to overcome the disease. Some of my closest, inner circle have been affected by breast cancer: my mother-in-law, Liz, and my close friends, Carol and Joi. I’m constantly reminded of the strength and dignity with which they faced breast cancer.

These are just some of my stories, and I’m sure you have your own:

Liz
My late mother-in-law, Liz, had both breasts removed at different times in her life. I think her strength, positive attitude, and the love and support of family and friends helped her get through those times. Every time I see the New York Times crossword puzzle, I cannot help but think of her—she did it every day and knew the most obscure words . . . like “propinquity.” Who knew?

Carol
Carol had a mastectomy and reconstruction, and she’s now cancer free after almost 20 years. As I build my company, I think of her almost daily; when I have those moments of doubt, I try to think about what Carol might do. Her energy and positivity are truly on the next level, and she gets through more in a day than most people in a week. And just when retired from her high-powered career, she decided to start a business of her own. Nothing stops Carol, not even breast cancer!

Joi
Joi underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, and has been cancer free for 20 years. Joi’s youthful and adventurous spirit cannot be contained. Whenever I hear “Benny and the Jets” by Elton John, I think of our silly, ridiculous, and wonderful high school years and all the memories from a lifetime of friendship. We would dance jubilantly, shouting all the words to the song . . . and still do!

To honor the fighting spirit of all the women and families who have won or lost much or all to breast cancer, and to help find a cure so we can stop this disease in its tracks, please join me as I raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Here’s how it works: We’ll give you a 15% discount on all purchases made through October and we’ll donate the 15% difference to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Together, we can raise awareness and prevent breast cancer from taking our sisters!
